Musical theater is an all-time favorite for Stefanie Chavez, 12, who aspires to be a professional actress after high school. “I like being able to express myself in a creative way and acting on stage,” Chavez said. “Musical theater helps me bring out my personality, and the capability of being able to change character and dress up as someone completely different is exciting. It challenges me.”

In order to help those who cannot afford a dress for dances, Glamour Gown members, Catherine Saldivar, Sara Guillén, Kaylee Aburto, Madeline Weyers, Isabella Fierro, Giselle Garcia, Michelle Vilarino, Kayla Terrazas, and Alexandra Romero come together on January 14 at the Casa de Parley Johnson.  “Many of us have been doing this since our freshman year,” Garcia said. “It was nice to see how happy everyone gets once they find the right dress and ‘Say yes to the dress’.”

In the Downey High School gym on Saturday, Dec. 3, Haylie Leon competes with a San Francisco opponent during the second match of the day. “Going into my match I was pumped up and ready to work my hardest,” Leon said. “I was just a little bit nervous and I expected the match to be somewhat tough but it all worked out at the end.”
