66th Annual Christmas Parade 2017

Nicole Estrada, Writer

Tis’ the season of joy and what a great way to encourage jolly spirits with the Downey Christmas parade, hosted by the Downey Chamber of Commerce on Downey Ave. Sun, Dec. 3rd from 1-3:30 p.m.

Regina Donahue has been volunteering with the Award Winning Downey Rose Float since 2009. The Rose Float comes through the Downey parade to give a small preview of what this year’s float will look like.

“I started volunteering because of my daughter Molly was Miss Teen Downey Princess,” Donahue stated, “and only Miss Downey Court rides on the float each year.”

Juleah Corzantes, 12, volunteered to walk in the parade with fellow friends by her side.

“In reality, I didn’t expect to be in the parade nor did I expect to walk,” Corzantes said. “It was fun but unexpecting because I didn’t want to walk in front of those people but I did it for my friends.”

It was Daniel Torres, 10, first time attending the Downey Christmas Parade. Since he had never appear at any these parades, he did not know what to expect.

“I really enjoyed all the dancing that was shown and when our cheerleaders came out, they put on a good show,” Torres said.  “I expected it to be a little bigger with more floats and performers but I was happy with what I got to see.”

This year’s grand marshall was Dr. Stauffer, superintendent of what was Sussman Middle School now Stauffer Middle School.  Dr. Stauffer was nominated as Grand Marshall for all of the great teaching she brought to Stauffer Middle School and her countless support in the community.
