Downey Residents Stay Busy

03/19/20: “The first three weeks we were completely isolated. After the three weeks we would drive around in the streets just to get out. Eventually, we started ordering food supporting the small businesses in Downey. I started working out with my kids in the backyard. We have Zoom meetings with the family and play games like loteria. We played Uno and games. The kids have been doing homework and playing. And we watch movies.”

Having a passion for basketball, Kiki El, 10, leaves everything on the court contributing to the win against the Warren Bears. “When I was young, I naturally found myself loving and doing well in this sport, and throughout the years I saw how well my passing abilities were,” El said. “Although teamwork and communication is the most important ability to have.”

Downey Dance Regionals

The Downey High School’s Dance Team showed off their skills on January 25 at the USA Dance Regionals. One of the team captains, Juliana Rincon, 12, made sure to do her part throughout all the dances. “I had to prepare myself mentally about a week prior to competition,” Rincon said. “I feel so many emotions before I’m about to go on, mostly nervous, but I know win or lose, I’ll always have my squad.”
