Downey High’s Annual Blood Drive

Downey High School hosts its annual Fall Blood drive on September 27 where Kirsten Rodriguez, 12, has donated a pint of blood. “I feel that the blood drive is really important cause it helps those who need it,” Rodriguez said. “I’m hoping my blood goes to someone in need.”

Being a blood donor for two years, Kaithlyn Pineda, 11, gives helpful tips to those donating blood. “Don’t be scared of the needle, make sure you eat before you donate. You might pass out if you don’t,” Pineda said. “Also if your iron level is too low in one finger, ask to check the other finger to make sure you don’t miss out on the opportunity to help others.”

Downey’s Annual Fall Blood Drive

Although last year’s blood drive was more advertised, Nelly Mora, 11, says there were still fellow Vikings at the gym on Friday ready to donate their blood. “This year we were like really stressed out about it and we had a lot to do,” Mora said. “We still have homecoming and the fall night rally and everything that we’re still planning.”
