Garnering $50 million at the box office, according to studio estimates, A Quiet Place is a horror movie about a family that must live in complete silence or risk alerting mysterious monsters. This film was released on Apr. 6 and is the second-biggest opening this year after Black Panther with a budget of less than $20 million, making it a low-budget film. Directed by John Krasinski and starring him and his real-life wife, Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place is the biggest box-office sleeper that has hit the theaters in a long time.

In the film Krasinski and Blunt’s characters must train their children to live in complete silence following an apocalyptic event that has unleashed noise-detecting creatures.

Horror movie fanatic, Daniel Bernard, 11, thinks the casting of the parents in the film was chosen wisely.

“Because they’re married in real life and they have two kids just like the film, I feel like their acting will be very genuine and real because they are similar to the characters they are playing,” Bernard said. “I look forward to watching it on the weekend and I have no doubt that the acting will be good.”

The success of A Quiet Place reinforces the box-office power of horror movies, which studios have turned to as profit-making releases that still get people off the couch, since scary movies are usually best enjoyed with a crowd and a theater’s sound system.

Fan of John Krasinski’s work in the TV show The Office, Liliana Palermo, 10, is really excited to see the film since Krasinski starred in the film and also directed it.

“I’m such a big fan of Jim on The Office so when I heard about the film I was super pumped to see it in theaters,” Palermo said. “I also feel like the plot sets it apart from other horror films because it’s so original, like it’s not the same old scary movie that is super predictable.”

In the days since the film hit theaters, people have taken to social media to share their experiences of trying to eat, drink and even breathe normally without bothering other people watching the movie.

Having watched the movie in theaters, Mauro Rosales, 11, felt awkward about eating in the theater.

“I didn’t really think too much about it before going in so I bought a lot of snacks to eat during the movie,” Rosales said. “When I realized how quiet it was I felt scared to even move around or open any of my snacks, it was kinda funny though.”
