Books Coming to the Big Screen

Although book adaptations can be controversial, it can always be exciting to see your favorite book come to life. Here are some of the upcoming book adaptations:

 

What started off as a five-book series is now being brought to life as a TV series on Disney +. Percy Jackson and the Olympians stars Walker Scobell as Percy who discovers his new powers as a demigod as he struggles to prove his innocence when he is accused of stealing a lightning bolt.. Supporting characters Annabeth and Grover will be played by Leah Sava Jefferies and Aryan Simihadri. The series will include the same action packed story lines featured in the books and is predicted to release sometime in 2024.

 

Continuing the popular series, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds, tells the story of 18-year old Coriolanus Snow, Tom Blyth, as he mentors Lucy Gray Baird, Rachel Zegler, from District 12. This movie also features other characters played by Hunter Schafer and Peter Dinklage. The movie is set to release November 17, 2023.

 

This musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel, The Color Purple, is about the struggles of an African-American woman living in the south during the 1900s. This film includes many influential actors such as Halle Bailey, Taraji P. Henson, Jon Batiste, and many more. The musical/drama is set to be  released on December 20, 2023.

Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, is coming to Amazon Prime as a miniseries. This book gained rapid popularity over the years and is expected to come to Prime later this year or early 2023. The miniseries will follow the tale of Daisy, a 26 year old girl beginning her rise to fame in the music industry with a band, The Six.

Another miniseries adaptation to add to the list is Salem’s Lot by Stephen King. The series will follow a writer who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot to find inspiration.  Upon his arrival, he discovers vampires in the town. This horror miniseries is set to premiere April 21, 2023.
