Song of the Week: “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran
October 20, 2017
On Sept. 22, Ed Sheeran posted a lyric video for “Perfect” on his official Youtube channel. “Perfect” was released on March 3 along with the other songs from the “Divide” album, but it was not an official single until now. The song became a fan favorite, with the lyric video surpassing 20 million views in its first week.
The story told throughout the song is heartwarming and beautiful. Sheeran sings about a girl he is in love with and sees as the most stunning person in the world. He talks about how he has known her since they were children and how they fell in love without even knowing it. Sheeran is set to marry this girl because he knows she is the one. He sees a future with her, full of love and happiness. He knows she will be right by his side, through the good and bad times.
One of my favorite lyrics from this song was, “We are still kids but we’re so in love. Fighting against all odds. I know we’ll be alright this time.” Sheeran shows how he is going to try his hardest into making this relationship work. They will fight every problem that life throws at their relationship. He reassures her that they will get through everything because of their love for each other.
Other memorable lyrics are, “I have faith in what I see. Now I know that I have met an angel in person and she looks perfect.” These lyrics perfectly capture the way he view the woman he is in hopelessly in love with. He sees her as an angel, the most beautiful person in the world. He does not see any flaws, which shows that he loves every single thing about this girl.
Sheeran sings with emotion, which adds on to the passionate and romantic tone of the song. The emotion he adds makes it clear to the listeners that he means every single word he is singing. Just like with many of his songs, he makes the listeners feel like they are also experiencing the same emotions he is feeling. He finds a way to create the feeling of romantic love within the listeners, even if they are not in love with someone.
There are not many songs on the radio that are as sentimental and heartfelt. It is refreshing to hear a song that is slower and more emotional. Personally, I believe “Perfect” is the best song from the “Divide” album. This is one of the many songs that shows how unique Ed Sheeran’s music is.

I struggled for the longest time writing this because Nathalie Sibal is a multitude of things: smart, creative, strong, honest, kind, hilarious – but above all, she’s unique, and not many people can claim to be.
Nathalie’s creativity and passion knows no bounds. She has an innate ability to create complex characters and capture them in diverse moments, whether they inhabit the luxurious lifestyle of the Victorian era or the simple, naturalistic setting of Greece. No matter what story she drafts, they all possess a deep love and understanding of the human experience. Her immense talent, coupled with her confidence, is unmatched by no other and I can’t wait to see her break barriers in Hollywood.
More than a screenwriter, Nathalie is the greatest friend anyone can ask for. She came at a transitional point in my life where I was unsure of the future, but with her by my side, change didn’t seem as petrifying. Her wit and resilience inspire me, her kind and carefree nature lift me up. She is the Louise to my Thelma, the Venom to my Eddie Brock. There are not enough words in the English language I can use to express how lucky and grateful I am to have her as my best friend.
