“Mystery of Love” by Sufjan Stevens

A part of the original motion picture soundtrack, “Mystery of Love” is an acoustic song featured in the Luca Guadagnino’s 2017 film Call Me By Your Name, with the track also being featured in  the trailer. The music video also has a large majority of clips from the movie, which seems fitting as it is composed to fit the theme of the movie. Singer Sufjan Stevens recently performed the song at the 2018 Oscars. Stevens also wrote two other songs for the film, “Visions of Gideon,” and a new interpretation of “Futile Devices” on the piano.

This song is different from my music taste, my setlist consisting more of K-pop and pop punk, I have added this song as a new part to to my Spotify playlist. This slow song is definitely a change of the usual upbeat tunes heard on the radio.

Steven’s voice whilst singing this song is something I have not heard yet before. It is as if the stars themselves came down to add the magic to this song. The lyrics can paint an image in your head, like the beauty and mysteriousness of love, whether you have ever felt it before, or even if you have not. It is refreshing to have something different for once. The song fits perfectly with the aesthetic of the song, it is really deep- I don’t want to spoil the movie, but I think the title of the song can relate to the film itself. The song was previously nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song, and Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Song.
