Ubisoft’s most recent entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed: Origins, is getting a brand new expansion released on Mar. 13. The Curse of the Pharaohs will serve as the second major DLC for Origins and will add many new features to the game including new enemies to fight, locations to explore, and weapons to collect as you fight to discover the origins of a curse plaguing the land.

PS4 gamer and moderate fan Mario Lopez, 12, sees the DLC as a great new addition to the game.

“The DLC looks really good based on the trailers and gameplay I’ve seen,” Lopez said. “Not only do we get new locations, but also new loot drops and enemies to fight which adds even more hours of gameplay to delve into.”

The Curse of the Pharaohs will allow the player to visit the Egyptian city of Thebes in a new storyline that continues the story of Bayek after the events of the main story and The Hidden Ones DLC. It focuses on Thebes as undead pharaohs have started to appear and attack the city seemingly out of nowhere. Alongside the city of Thebes, players will also be able to travel to the afterlives of the undead pharaohs in order to quell their anger. Defeating these pharaohs will reward players with unique weapons and items that are unavailable otherwise. The downloadable content will also add a new level cap of 55 for players to hit and try to max out.

PS4 gamer and Assassin’s Creed fan Carlos Huerta, 12, believes that the new DLC will be an improvement to the game as a whole.

“It kind of takes the more modern zombie theme that people love these days and it combines it with the mystical afterlife that the Egyptians believed in,” Huerta said. “ It ties in with the setting by allowing you to go into the pharaohs afterlife after raiding their tombs in the Valley of the Kings.”

In addition to the new gear and enemies that will be added, The Curse of the Pharaohs will also add new skills and abilities for the player to learn and utilize against the new undead enemies. Such new skills include the ability to pierce through enemy shields with fully charged bow shots, causing a bleeding ailment to your opponents, and many new combat mechanics to master. Some skills can also buff the player, such as with bonus damage after a close dodge.

Casual Assassin’s Creed fan Alan Velazco, 12, thinks that these new skills could change the combat of the game in fascinating ways.

“They’ll make the game more interesting and add new fighting strategies,” Velazco said. “I think it’ll add new and exhilarating ways of combat with different styles of execution.”

The Curse of the Pharaohs is expected to be released on Mar. 13 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC and will be available for all players to purchase, and for those who have already bought the season pass.
