The Downey High School’s Allen Layne Football Stadium was roaring with excitement and cheers for the Homecoming football game against the St. Paul High School Swordsmen on Friday, September 15, 2023. The crowd and football team were accompanied by this year’s homecoming court and put on a spectacular firework show as this year’s King and Queen of court were announced and crowned. The Vikings dominated the Swordsmen throughout the whole night and with the perfect way to end the night, they claimed victory with the score of 17-7.
As a returner of Newspaper staff 2023-2024, Vivianna Alba, 11, is coming back as a photo editor. In her free time, Alba enjoys taking photos as a way of expressing herself, she is extremely proud of herself due to the fact that she has college scholarships as a junior in high school. She hopes to pursue a career with animals as a vet later down the road. Alba perceives herself as a shy and quiet person but in reality, is really outgoing.
Alba has a lot of goals for herself this year alone. “ I hope to improve my skills because there's room for improvement as a photographer,” Abla stated. “ I want to make Newspaper more known just so they can see all the work that is being put into it.”
Joining the Downey Legend for the first time, Mario Sanchez, 12, plans to get the most out of his senior year. As a member of Downey High’s track team in addition to being a caretaker at a daycare company, Sanchez shows his commitment to both his school and his community. As a new photographer for the Downey Legend, Sanchez plans to use his previous experience to help him. Sanchez wants to use his time at the Downey Legend to gain connections as well as having as much fun as possible for his senior year.Sanchez’s ambition and care for both himself and his community can clearly be seen in any interaction with him. “I just want to conquer everything,” Sanchez stated. “I want everything to go smoothly, and have a good year for my peers and I.”
