Pandemic Pet Boom

Since lockdown began, many adoption centers have reported all-time highs of cat and dog adoptions and Mikaela Dagundon, who recently adopted a dog, gives insight. “Getting William wasn’t hard, except for money,” Dagundon said. “I got him after being free from the military, but most people could be impulsively getting pets out of loneliness since they’re home a lot.”

Starting her first year as a Photo Editor for The Downey Legend, Montserrat Gonzales is ready to finish her senior year at DHS off strong in order to major in psychology. Throughout high school, Gonzalez has proved to be a hard worker by taking AP classes and maintaining CSF. Because of her compassion for others, she is in the Downey High School Make-A-Wish Club and plans to help others as much as possible by becoming a therapist.
“I want to be a therapist because I’ve noticed how stigmatized admitting you’re struggling and need[ing] help is,” Gonzalez stated. “I just want to be able to provide a support system for people because everybody deserves one.”
