Downey High held an exciting Student vs. Staff basketball game at 5 PM, bringing the school community together for a fun night, all for a good cause! The gym was packed with Viking spirit as students and staff played against each other in a friendly (but competitive) game in hopes of raising money for charity. One student shared, “Watching the teachers play against the students was entertaining. Everybody was having fun watching them, and it felt good knowing that it was for a good cause.”

Aspiring photographer, Denisse Rodriguez, 12, is an active volunteer at PIH Hospital and contributes to the Downey High Advance Sports Med team. Rodriguez enjoys taking pictures of her friends and the outdoors using the knowledge she gained of using a digital camera in photojournalism. Not only did she learn how to work the camera but she grew in her writing. Rodriguez, is an honest and friendly person who takes part in advanced courses and is looking to achieve an outstanding GPA to get into a good college to pursue her dream of becoming a physical therapist. Outside of school she enjoys going out, playing with her dog, and hanging out with friends. First-time member in the Downey Legend, Rodriguez, hopes to continue taking pictures around campus and sharing Downey pride.
“This year I want to to learn and to connect with the people in newspaper and use my photography skills to capture the moment,” Rodriguez said.
