As baseball season has begun, Senior Marcos Quinonez shares how the crowds get him excited during games. “The crowd being more packed and having more people cheer us on would be more fun,” said Quinonez. “It gives us baseball players something to be excited about and for.”

Angelena Maqueda, Social Media
Angelena Maqueda, also known as Angie, began working as a media journalist for the Downey legend in her first year. Angie is an extroverted person who many would describe as incredibly loyal, curious, kind-hearted, etc. “I think of myself as a loud person,” Maqueda said. Her career goal after high school is to become a dermatologist. Despite only being a junior, she has been interested in this field of work since middle school. “It’s fascinating to me—like oh my goodness, the skin can do all of that,” Maqueda said. Angie wants to become more involved in school and improve her public speaking. She encourages stepping outside her comfort zone and social circle when asked why she joined a newspaper. Whether it’s from her goal of being in ASB, or simply from being in the Downey Legend, she hopes to develop new bonds.

Katelyn Castaneda, Photographer
First-year Katelyn Castaneda, 12, has joined The Downey Legend to pursue her passion in photography. Outside of The Downey Legend, Castaneda is in her third year of ASB. She states that ASB has taught her to be a more outgoing and confident person. She wants to continue her education at Cypress College to continue her studies as an Ultrasound Technician
“ I have always been the photographer type of person, since my family owns a business. In elementary school I was the school photographer by taking pictures on my Ipad. Then in middle school I continued taking pictures for my school. Finally in highschool I actually got a photography class. It was really fun because we actually used cameras and we learned how to use photoshop,” Castaneda said. “It’s just a way to show my creativity.”

Alexis Cazares, Business Manager
Second year Alexis Cazaras is entering this year in The Legend as Head of Social Media and Business. After gaining experience in photo journalism her freshman year, she decided to join Newspaper her junior year in order to put herself out here and meet new people. Cazaras plans to attend college. While she is still exploring schools she knows she wants to major in radiology. Cazares is excited for senior activities and states she is “Preparing herself for this year and what’s to come”.
