With a four-year sweep against Warren High School, Kaylie Lara, 12, started her freshman year at junior varsity and shortly after joined the higher level of competitiveness: varsity. “Making CIF playoffs division two would be my favorite memory because it was a surreal experience, I never thought I’d be there.” Lara stated, “I have been playing basketball for so long that it makes me sad because I blinked and now I am playing my last basketball game.”

First year staff member of The Downey Legend newspaper, Jaylene Cardona, 12, photographer and business manager, aspires to become a surgical nurse after high school. Cardona’s passion is to help people both mentally and physically in order for them to enjoy their remaining life. She aims to earn her doctoral degree within five years at her dream college, whether it be Berkeley or NYU, she plans to work hard until she reaches her goals.
