The Weather

In the month of January, numerous showers and slight thunderstorms have effected California and have even caused flash flooding in some areas.  Since residents have been suffering from a drought, it was a shock when SoCal people heard or read that it would rain off and on for three weeks straight .

Throughout the downpours students at Downey High School  struggled to keep dry from the rain. Using umbrellas, rain boots, and rain coats still were not enough to keep kids dry during school, despite wearing uggs, bomber jackets, leggings, and sweats.

Periods of heavy rain, with peak rainfall rates of a half inch to one inch of water in some Downey streets, caused residents to reroute on their way to work and going back home. Areas in the 710 freeway were shutdown due to flash flooding.
