Lisa Torres, Photographer/Writer
For her first year in Newspaper, Lisa Torres, 12, joins this year’s crew as a photographer/writer. Torres hopes to achieve good grades this year, she also wants to have fun adventures and learn new things. Torres has plans of graduating from Downey with good grades and then going to Cerritos to then transfer to Cal State Long Beach to pursue a career in the medical field. With the free time that Torres has, she likes to Dance, Listen to music and sing, she also likes photography and visiting nature. Torres also enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite animal is a dolphin but has a dream pet which is a fat and chubby bulldog.
Torres was excited to join newspaper this year, after being in photojournalism last year and recommended by the teacher, “I am really excited to explore the creative side of newspaper, having new experiences to photograph and write about” Torres stated “it’s really something I’ve always been curious about and ready to begin new chapters in my life.”
Zachary Pepaj, Writer
Writer and videographer, Zachary Pepaj, 12, in his second year here in The Downey Legend Newspaper, and his last, he would like to make a big project for this class and make it memorable. Also to make and see more content from this class. Zachary would like to go to Cerritos College to find himself in filming then transfer to CSUN to continue his dream of becoming a filmmaker.
“I feel like it isn’t too late to discover your passions, it’s okay if you need to take a different path to discover who you truly are. Not other people’s expectations of you or what they want from you, your expectations. It’s okay if that starts with an alternative school or community college. That’s not a bad thing!”
Nadia Phutsorn, Copy Editor
Nadia Phutsorn, a second-year Newspaper student, is excited and ready to take on the year as the head of Illustration and Writing for The Downey Legend. Phutsorn, a calm and easy-going student, enjoys illustrating for the Newspaper. “I love leading the artistic vision of publication,” Phutsorn said. “Transforming ideas into images that enhance storytelling and gives newspaper its uniqueness is what I love contributing to newspaper.” Besides her love for drawing, Phutsorn also enjoys playing piano, showcasing her versatility in the field of art.
When Phutsorn graduates, she hopes to go to Cal State Fullerton to study nursing and hopefully to specialize in oncology. Phutsorn also enjoys traveling and has been to various countries, her favorite being Japan.
