Ready for the stage floor

British electric indie band, Hot Chip released their Grammy nominated single “Ready for the Floor” as part of their 2008 album: Made in the Dark. This bouncy baseline track helped establish the ‘80s influenced electro-pop era in the UK during the late 2000s. The track has lead vocalist, Alexis Taylor, sing the lyrics: “You’re my number one guy.” The lyrics sparked media controversy among casual listeners into thinking Taylor was gay. The lingering question was later addressed. “It doesn’t matter if I’m gay or not,” Taylor told “I’m just enjoying the music, as should everyone.” Clever electro beat countermelodies gave the band their biggest accomplishment by reaching number six on the UK singles chart.  The music video for the track has Taylor dressed as the Joker from Batman, mimicking the Joker from the famous Tim Burton movie with geeky dance moves in sync with the music. It was in 2010 when Hot Chip decided to add a sixth member to their group. Guitar and synth player, Al Doyle, added more of an indie feel to the band. “Despite the fact we have to drive around in a van and stay in crappy hotels,” Doyle told, “I love it.” Their most recent album In Our Heads was released in June 2012 and the group of six toured in North America that summer.
