Sony launched their annually scheduled Paris Games Week beginning on Nov. 1. Gaming companies such as Sony and Microsoft announce, demonstrate, and elaborate on upcoming games and expansions for consoles and PC alike. One of the more prominent and most anticipated of these games, is the upcoming The Last of Us Part 2 for the PS4.

The Last of Us Part 2 serves as a sequel to The Last of Us, a Playstation exclusive title released back in June 2013. The original teaser trailer for part two showed original protagonists Ellie and Joel in an abandoned building, and set a somber and more sorrowful atmosphere. At the Paris Games Weeks, a new trailer was released, showcasing the more violent and gruesome aspects of the new game, as well as potential new characters.

PS4 gamer and potential buyer, Albert Ariaz, was very excited to see the new trailer for the game.

“First, we get a story that doesn’t totally revolve around Joel and Ellie,” Ariaz said. “Also, we see how the Fireflies have changed after the end of the last game. You know it’s them because of the way they talk, like saying ‘clip her wings’ instead of ‘break her arms.’”

In addition to The Last of Us 2, other major titles were announced to be on their way. Monster Hunter World, the next game in the long running franchise, got a brand new trailer that focuses more on the newer monsters and some new gameplay mechanics. Monster Hunter World introduces seamless transitions between different in-game areas, as opposed to loading screens in previous titles. Monster Hunter World will also allow hunters to use their environments to their advantage, such as ledges for escape, hanging rocks to damage enemies, and a new grappling hook mechanic.

Xbox One gamer and moderate fan of the Monster Hunter series, Alan Velazco, is hopeful for the new game and its potential.

“I watched the trailer and thought that the game looked really good,” Velazco said. “The graphics look great, and the monsters look newer and better than on the 3DS.”

Upcoming games were not all that was announced at Paris Games Week. Destiny 2 downloadable content (DLC) was shown at the game fair, announcing a brand new campaign as well as some new enemy types. The new DLC takes the player to Mercury in order to combat a rising robotic threat and seek out a new Guardian, Osiris, in hopes that he may help you in you journey. While not much was shown in the trailer, it will add more content and missions to the base game and is available on Dec. 5 of this year.

PS4 gamer and original Destiny player, Diego Martinez, is very interested in what this new DLC could do for the game.

“It looks cool, but I was kind of skeptical about it,” Martinez said. “The DLC looks kind of low quality, but the plot and content look good.”

So far, various new games have been showcased for the PS4, as well as for the Xbox One. While Paris Games Week may be over, gamers and fans got a look at some of the brand new and exciting games that await in the near future. Ranging from DLC to new titles, there is something for all gamers to look forward to in the upcoming months.
