Cartoon Network has created a reboot of the popular show, The Powerpuff Girls made in 1998, as they announced the series in June 2014, but did not air it until April 4, 2016.

“I used to watch it when I was younger. I know it’s not going to be the same,” Vanesa Murrieta, 10 said, “It’s not the same, I don’t expect it to be.”

The original Powerpuff Girls were shown on Cartoon Network on Nov. 18, 1998, and voiced by Cathy Cavadini as Blossom, Elizabeth Daily as Buttercup, and Tara Strong as Bubbles. It was aired from 1998 until 2005 and was created by Craig McCracken.

“I always thought Buttercup was cool,” Soledad Garibay, 9 said. “She seemed more like a teenager than a child to me.”

Unlike the original show, the voice actors are Amanda Leighton as Blossom, Natalie Palamides as Buttercup and Kristen Li as Bubbles. The creator McCracken will not be working on the reboot but supports the idea.

“Buttercup was my favorite,” Murrieta said. “She reminded me of me; she would often do thing I would.”

To promote the reboot, Cartoon Network has created a website where anyone can make themselves into an animated Powerpuff girl or boy. The website has gotten a lot of attention from celebrities such as Lauren Oliver, Dan Howell and Elliot Knight.

“I’m excited to see mojo,” Evert Rodriguez, 11, said, “I never watched as a child too much, but when I did watch it was good; I watched with my siblings growing up.”

The new cartoon has strayed from the original intro and has added a new theme song. The theme song unlike the original has lyrics and is not instrumental. They have also taken away the prologue dialogue. The intro has added a mixture of black and white, having the Powerpuff Girls uncolored and the villains in color in still frames.

“I made my little cousin watch it with me,” Garibay said. “I wasn’t too into it, it changed too much for me. I hate the intro. I don’t like the song, it’s not catchy.”

The first episode, “Escape From Monster Island” was aired April 4, on Cartoon Network. Bubbles and Buttercup fight about attending a concert with Blossom, when the mayor needs help with a rescue on Monster Island.

Since the shows release there has been a new episode everyday, Cartoon Network has allowed viewers to watch the show online on their website at Http://www.cartoonnetwork.com for free.
