Registration to Senior Year

Class of 2025, the time has come: registration for senior year is here! This means some of us will have a free period, some will be TAs, and others will have a packed schedule.

There are lots of choices to choose from for this new year. There’s regular government vs AP United States Government and Politics; which goes into depth about the three branches of government and the foundation of the American political system. “ “ I picked AP Gov because I think politics are interesting and I want to learn why the system is the way it is,” states Gamez, 11.

There’s also regular Economics vs AP Macroeconomics, which introduces students to how policy affects national income and economic falls and rise.

In addition, Downey hosts a variety of regular English 12, CSU Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum (ERWC), and AP English Literature and Composition. CSU ERWC is a class that helps students for college preparatory in rhetoric-based English.

Although it’s not needed, taking a four-year math course is highly recommended by math teachers and counselors! There is quite a variety of math courses to choose from: there’s EAP math, which is a course that prepares students for the college entrance exam in math.  EAP math reviews the past three years of math you have taken. There’s trigonometry/ pre-calc which focuses on the specific functions of angles. There’s also AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC. if you want to learn a different type of math; there’s regular and AP Statistics.

Some juniors have decided to take AP Spanish Language and Composition. Junior, Vivana Aquino, states her reasoning for taking the course: “I wanted to take it because I wanted to improve my oral Spanish.”

Other juniors decided to take their smarts to the garden and decided to take botany. Junior, Ivanka Truilljo-Sanchez, states her reasoning on why she picked botany: “ I decided to pick botany because it’s interesting planting plants and learning how they work.”

Others decided to use their smarts to learn how the environment works and how everything interacts with each other. AP Environmental Science is an interesting course that offers students how to learn how the environmental impact affects everyday life.

Keep an eye out, Vikes because The Downey Legend is soon opening up applications! Make your last year memorable and enjoy the very last of it.
