In her first year in Newspaper, Mia Ellingson, 12, is ready for all that this year has in store for her final year of high school. Joining Newspaper as a podcaster, Ellingson hopes to gain better public speaking skills, and get out of her comfort zone, finding entertainment in listening to podcasts on her own time, particularly enjoying political ones. She is looking forward to being able to record her first-ever episode and wants to cover all the interesting things going on around campus. Her skills also extend into being the golf captain for Downey’s team, having received the title of third in the league for golf. With a soft spot for children, fond of their energetic ways, and having been exposed to younger kids constantly because of her mom being a teacher, she has found she likes being in the classroom with kids, she hopes to become a child psychologist. 

“I want to help better children's experiences with school,” Ellingson says. “To understand that living with problems at home is okay, it doesn’t make you weird or different.”
