Girls Tennis Takes the Win Against Gahr

At Cerritos College, playing against Gahr High School, the girls tennis team defeated their opponents 93-70 on Monday, Sept. 25. Girls tennis played Warren away on Friday, Sept. 22. They tied matches 9-9, however once the scores were totaled it was revealed that Warren had prevailed 59-54. After winning all of her matches against her Warren opponent, Leila Hatier, 12, was named athlete of the week.  They beat Lynwood at home on Sept. 28, winning 11-7.

 

Football

Varsity football took the win against Santa Fe, 54-0, on Friday, Sept. 22 at home. Their next game is scheduled for Friday, Oct.6 at home against the Paramount Pirates.

JV football played away on Thursday, Sept. 21 against Santa Fe and defeated them 25-9.
Their next game is away at Paramount on Thursday, Oct. 5.

Freshman football also played at home against Santa Fe and won, 48-0.  They will play the Pirates at home on Thursday, Oct. 5.

 

Golf

Girls varsity golf played a close game, 262- 263 (L), against Warren at Rio Hondo Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 26. “[I am] really proud of their hard work,”  Coach Bean said. “I’m glad that was our best score but sad we lost to the other school.” The girls will get another chance to play Warren on Thursday, Oct. 12 at Rio Hondo.

 

Volleyball

Girls varsity volleyball played at the John Riding Memorial Tournament from Friday, Sept. 22 to Saturday, Sept. 23. They played two games, one on Friday against Bakersfield, which resulted in a Vikings defeat and one on Saturday where Downey won the bronze bracket in a tournament against Righetti, 25 – 16.  Their next game is at away on Tuesday, Oct. 3 against Warren, which is also their Dig Pink game. Freshman and JV will both play Lynwood at home on Thursday, Sept. 28. JV is competing in the Valley Christian Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 30.

 

Water Polo

Boys water polo defeated Paramount 19-5 on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at home. “Our guys played a good game against a tough, up and coming opponent, Paramount,” Coach Villa said. “I am proud of our boys. We had some adversity early on and came away with a dominant win.We had two key players not suit up and dealt with some early foul trouble.” Montebello won 25-10 on Thursday, Sept. 28.

 

Cross Country

Cross Country had their first cluster meet at La Mirada Regional Park on Thursday, Sept. 21. Their next cluster meet is at Cerritos Regional Park on Thursday, Oct. 12.
