The first 100 days of Trump’s second presidency ensued chaos globally and caused tensions within and outside of the country.
January:
- 20th: Trump is inaugurated as the 47th president, pledging that: “ I return to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the start of a thrilling new era of national success. A tide of change is sweeping the country, sunlight is pouring over the entire world, and America has the chance to seize this opportunity like never before.”
- The first president to sign 26 executive orders on his first day
- Signs an executive order withdrawing the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO)
- Trump pardoned the sentences of 1,500 people charged with crimes associated with the January 6th, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol
- Demands that the Gulf of Mexico be changed to the Gulf of America
- Takes down the Spanish website version of the White House
- Takes down reproductiverights.gov
- Eliminates the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) in federal agencies
- Wants to annex Canada, amongst other nations
- Declares a national emergency at the southern border to redirect military funds for border enforcement
- Attempts to pass an executive order that tries to end birthright citizenship, stating that children born to parents not legally residing in the US would not automatically be granted citizenship, receiving massive backlash and legal challenges
- Declares a ‘ national energy emergency’ and wants to drill in Alaska
- Reinstates the Mexico City Policy: blocks U.S. federal funding on abortion counseling; first instated by Ronald Reagan
- Wants to acquire Greenland; Prime Minister, Mute Bourup Egede responds saying, ‘ We are not for sale’
- Announces retaliatory tariffs on Colombia after Colombian President Gustavo Petro blocked the U.S. military deportation flights from landing
- Signs an executive order barring transgender people from serving and enlisting in the military
- Signs an executive order blocking puberty blockers and surgical procedures to align an individual’s physical appearance with a gender identity that differs from their sex
- Signs the Laken Riley Act: “ Requires the U.S. Homeland Security to detain non-citizens who are charged with, arrested for, or convicted of certain crimes.”
- Announces 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports and 10% tariffs on Chinese imports
- February:
- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces a 25% tariff on Canadian exports to the United States
- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a 25% tariff on Mexican exports to the United States
- Trump holds off on the tariffs on Mexico and Canada; Canada and Mexico do the same
- The 10% tariffs on China go into effect on February 4th
- Intends to appoint himself chairman of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
- Protests against the Trump administration break out around the United States
- Imposes a 25% tariff on all foreign imports of steel and aluminum
- Tries to bar the Associated Press from an Oval Office event if they don’t refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America
- The Associated Press is indefinitely barred from the Oval Office and Air Force One
- Intents to incorporate a 25% tariff on the European Union
- Declares his intent to take over the Gaza Strip; Palestinians would need to leave their own land and go to other nations
- March:
- Signs an executive order to make English the official language of the United States
- Avoids government shutdown
- Congressman Al Green is kicked out of the Congress session after speaking out of turn during Trump’s address
- Orders a series of airstrikes targeting Houthi-controlled Yamen, killing 31 people
- Attempts to negotiate a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine
- The John F. Kennedy records are released
- Signs an executive order to dismantle the Department of Education
- Considering bypassing the 22nd Amendment and seeking a third presidential term

- Trump announces 10% global tariffs on all imports minus Mexico and Canada; announces reciprocal tariffs
- 2nd: Global stock markets began to experience a decrease in prices and increased volatility as a result of the newly imposed tariffs. It was the largest global market decline since the 2020 stock market crash that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic
- China’s minimum tariff will be increased up to 145%
- China announces retaliatory tariff up to 84% against the United States
- 29th: marks the first 100 days of Trump’s presidency, and held a rally in Michigan to celebrate April
