    Lauren Silva, Illustrator
Inspired by her love for art coming from years of ‘doodle practice,’ freshman Lauren Silvia joins the Downey Legend as a comic illustrator. She is the only freshman on the Newspaper staff of 2020-2021 at age 13. When she isn’t drawing, Silvia spends her free time practicing for Lacrosse and her Soccer team with her dad. She plays soccer for the Slammers, an elite team, in Huntington Beach as a forward striker and is not officially on a Lacrosse team but plans on being in one . Her other casual hobbies include reading and painting for fun. Silvia’s biggest goal for her first year at Downey High is to make new friends and to break out of her shell.

“There is something I live by that I sometimes sit back and remind myself,” Silvia said.“I am enough and that is enough.”

    • Sanchez favorite thing about art is whenever she’s having a hard time about something she puts on her music and draws or paints whatever she wants in order to get her thoughts together. Some favorite things Sanchez likes to do is draw or paint skulls and flowers. “My mom loved skulls as well as I do, they’ve always been around my whole life and I associate them with her.” Sanchez stated “I also like the shadows they have which are struggling but a good way to learn shadows. As for flowers, they are really pretty and can cover a lot of mistakes in a painting.”

    • Feeling at peace, Artist Anthony Ochoa, 12, has taken an interest in drawing ever since he has seen the beauty and stories that a drawing can tell just by one’s perspective. Illustrating makes him feel as if he could create something as great as what he has seen. He is inspired by Zillionross, a youtuber and his teacher, “My inspirations are my teachers that helped me draw and a Youtuber by the name of Zillionross.” Ochoa said, “He taught me how proportions work within a character model, how to use shadowing correctly, and he also taught me how to utilize different values to make my drawings stand out.” Ochoa has been drawing since he was thirteen, five years later he is still engaged with visual arts.
